Under the Corsican coastal waters, within the Cap Corse et de l'Agriate Marine Nature Park (PNMCCA), there are many underwater cavities. These spaces constitute real underwater ecosystems which are home to certain sensitive species, such as red coral.
In order to protect this relatively fragile habitat, the Créocéan design office launched a census project at the start of the year. This is part of the continuity of various operations to observe the underwater caves around the Isle of Beauty.
So, 176 submerged caves have been identified on the Corsican coast, and 22 precisely located, analyzed by divers and described in detail. The objective: to propose actions for preserve these marine environments. By spring 2021, in addition to the census, missions at sea must also be carried out.
